Repairing and preparing Tirana for a resilient future

Tirana is the political and economic capital of Albania and a flourishing city of 850 000 inhabitants (one third of the country’s total population). Situated in the Western Balkans, the city is located about 34 kilometers west of the Adriatic Sea. From the south and west it is surrounded by relatively low hills, while on the northwestern side the city extends over a flat area.

Tirana is a complex and rapidly changing city full of paradoxes. Its lively, chaotic urban fabric reflects its extraordinary history. Marked by an intense densification of existing neighborhoods along with the creation of self built informal suburban patterns, Tirana has experienced recent administrative reforms which have greatly increased the geographical area covered by its municipality, combining together surrounding suburban and rural communities.

The international workshop of urban planning and design will explore actionable ideas and approaches on repairing the current cracks in the urban fabric, while preparing to sustainably manage the rapid demographic and economic growth that is expected to continue.

    How to apply ?

The workshop is open to all areas of study and expertise! It is aimed at professionals of any nationality or discipline. Town planners, designers, architects, geographers, engineers, photographers, environmentalists, landscape designers, artists, journalists, etc. are welcome to apply.

    Conditions and requirements

Proficiency in English (must be able to work as part of an international team) and full availability for the workshop dates. Participants will work on a voluntary basis. Nevertheless, the travel to Tirana, the accommodation, the work spaces, all visits, group meals, resource documents, conferences and drawing materials are provided by Les Ateliers. Participants must bring their own computers.

Applications must be sent as a single PDF file compiling your CV, a motivation letter and the application form. The file must be entitled LAST NAME_First name_Tirana and sent by 15 November 2020.

Strict health and barrier measures will be implemented all along your stay with us in Tirana.

You want to enhance your experience by participating in a collective creative experience, please read the topic document, fill the application form and send your application by 15th of November to the following address: [email protected]
