Tirana, The Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue – 2025
Throughout 2025, Tirana will be, jointly with the city of Alexandria, Egypt, the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue, a title awarded to the two cities by the Union for the Mediterranean (https://ufmsecretariat.org/) and Anna Lindh Foundation (https://alf.website/en/) as a mechanism of promoting intercultural exchanges and the fostering of North-South and East-West dialogue, all in the framework of the joint euro-mediterranean identity of the region.
Tirana’s proposal for the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2025, titled "MEDITIRANAEAN Bridges", aims to create a transformative cultural experience while fostering intercultural dialogue with Euro-Mediterranean cities.
The initiative features a wide array of activities, including art exhibitions, music and film festivals, performing arts showcases, and literary events, complemented by intercultural food festivals and heritage workshops. It emphasizes community involvement, digital innovation, and cultural heritage preservation, aiming to celebrate Mediterranean diversity, promote sustainable tourism, and enrich Tirana’s cultural life. This holistic program aspires to build stronger connections across the Euro-Mediterranean cultural landscape.
In this perspective, the Municipality of Tirana encourages all project proposals to embody euro-mediterranean components, transcending the boundaries of our city and country, and reaching out to potential cities, organizations and individuals in the Euro-Mediterranean basin.
