Polytechnic University of Tirana

The building of the University of Tirana was designed by the Italian architect Gherardo Bosio in 1939-1940 and it was finished in 1942 as “Casa del Fascio” (House of Fascism) or “Palazzo Littorio”. Its architecture is characterized by compact parallelepiped united with each other that gives the impression of a Roman fortress and brings in memory the traditional Albanian tower that is performed in terms of modernity.
This building is in harmony with the hill that lies in the background. Since this building is the last element of the boulevard is characterized by heavy structural monumentality but also by clear and lucid line.
The University of Tirana is the first university in Albania that was established in 1957 as the State University of Tirana by merging five existing institutes of higher education, the most significant of which was the Institute of Science, established in 1947.
From 1985 to 1992 the University of Tirana was named after Enver Hoxha, the communist dictator, who died on April 11th 1985.
The University of Tirana is the largest university in Albania. It includes eight faculties, 50 academic departments and 41 researching programs.
