STAFF EXCHANGES BETWEEN YEREVAN, WARSAW, AND TIRANA IN MUNICIPAL WASTE MANAGEMENT AND HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT
The General Directorate of Integration, Strategic Planning and Economic Development of the Municipality of Tirana, organized a study visit of the staff with the partner cities of the project & cities that cooperate for common challenges in the management of hazardous waste - Yerevan, Warsaw, Tirana; from Yerevan and Warsaw .
For the week, February 5-9, 2024, the representatives of the municipalities of these cities were introduced to the waste management method of the city of Tirana. Part of the visit was getting to know the waste management practice of the city of Verona in Italy as part of the agreement between the Municipality of Tirana and the Municipality of Verona. The Municipality of Tirana applies, through the Eco-Tirana company, the waste management model of the Municipality of Verona.
The visit was combined with group discussions with key actors in the field as well as representatives of civil society, beneficiaries of innovation sub-grants, part of the project for Capital cities cooperating for common challenges in the management of hazardous waste - Yerevan, Warsaw,-Tirana; Friends and colleagues from Yerevan and Warsaw visited Eco-Tirana where they got to know closely the waste management of the city of Tirana, the technology used as well as plans to improve services to citizens.
Mr. Genci Kojdheli, the General Director as well as other representatives of the Municipality of Tirana joined the representatives of the municipalities of Yerevan and Warsaw to familiarize themselves closely with the positive experience of the waste management of the Municipality of Verona. Hazardous waste management was part of the exchange of experiences between the cities.
The delegation was introduced to the functioning system of waste collection and disposal as well as the ecological islands of the city of Verona.
Mr. Diego Testi, Administrator of Eco-Tirana explained how the ecology islands work and the plan to build them in Tirana according to the positive model of the city of Verona.
The study visit took place in the framework of the project for Capitals that cooperate for common challenges in the management of hazardous waste - Yerevan, Warsaw, Tirana; financed by the EU.
The project for Capitals collaborate on common challenges in hazardous waste management - Yerevan,Warsaw, Tirana is designed to bring about significant improvements in MMR, providing innovative and collaborative solutions for local governments, companies and citizens. The project aims to:
1) Strengthen aspects of evidence-based local governance through technical and organizational solutions for MMR,
2) Increase citizen awareness and participation in hazardous waste management, and
3) Prioritize effective management hazardous waste in partner cities.
